Synology is calling attention to the growing importance of reliable and secure data infrastructure as the Philippines continues expanding its digital government services under the E-Governance Act (RA 12254).

As more transactions, applications, and public services shift online, system reliability is becoming a larger concern, especially during periods of high demand.
According to data referenced by the World Bank, the number of Filipinos expected to use digitally enabled government services could increase by around 30 million between 2022 and 2026. This growth places additional pressure on shared systems responsible for handling online transactions and records.
Recent reports have already shown how spikes in user activity can temporarily disrupt access to government platforms when systems reach capacity limits.
Digital Adoption Continues to Grow
The shift toward online government services is becoming more noticeable across areas such as payments, applications, and document processing.
At the same time, internet usage in the Philippines continues to expand. Recent industry figures estimate that around 98 million Filipinos are now online, with approximately 88.5% using digital financial services monthly.
However, infrastructure gaps remain an issue, particularly in areas where users rely heavily on mobile data connections or have limited access to fixed broadband.
Synology Philippines Country Manager Claire Huang noted that reliability is now becoming just as important as accessibility.

“Because more services move online, it’s no longer just about access, but how reliable these systems are in everyday use. Systems need to be secure, stable and able to handle higher demand, especially for services people rely on regularly.”
Reliability and Recovery Becoming Larger Priorities
As more essential services move online, even short outages or disruptions can affect access to government platforms and delay transactions.
During the GOVX.0 Conference 2026, Synology discussed how agencies can improve resilience through:
- Reliable backup systems
- Faster data recovery
- Better continuity during unexpected disruptions
The company also highlighted the increasing importance of cybersecurity.
According to the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2025, the Philippines remains among the countries most affected by cyber threats, including ransomware, phishing, and credential theft affecting both public and private sector organizations.
In response, Synology pointed to solutions such as ActiveProtect, which are designed to simplify backup and recovery processes while helping organizations respond more quickly to outages or security incidents.
Growing Focus on On Premise Reliability
The discussion reflects a broader shift happening across both government and enterprise sectors.
As services become more dependent on online infrastructure, organizations are placing greater focus on:
- Data resilience
- Recovery planning
- Local backup systems
- Reduced downtime
Rather than treating backups as secondary infrastructure, resilience is increasingly being viewed as part of the core service experience.
This is less about storage hardware itself and more about the growing pressure behind digital infrastructure in the Philippines.
As more services move online, reliability becomes much more visible to the public. Even short disruptions can quickly affect payments, registrations, or access to government systems.
The bigger takeaway here is that digital transformation is no longer just about launching platforms. Long term stability, recovery, and security are becoming equally important parts of the conversation.
