Intel Core i5-11400 Performance with the ASRock Z590 Steel Legend WiFi 6E

We got a chance to test out the latest 11th generation processor from Intel, the Intel Core i5-11400, partnered up with the ASRock Z590 Steel Legend WiFi 6E Motherboard.

The latest 11th Gen Intel Core desktop processors are engineered with a new processor core architecture named “Tiger Lake” that improves its A.I., performance, and efficiency compared to its previous generation.

Intel i5-11400 Build

Some of the improvements are the hardware and software efficiency using Intel’s Deep Learning Boost which accelerates AI performance. Also, it supports up to DDR4-3200, up to 20 CPU PCIe 4.0 lanes, 1 integrated USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20G), and Intel Optane Memory H20 with SSD support.

Now it’s time to take a deeper dive into this build to see what kind of performance it can offer. Here are the parts for this build:

Processor:Intel Core i5-11400
Motherboard:ASRock Z590 Steel Legend WiFi 6E
Memory:Kingston Fury 3200MHz 8GB DDR4
Graphics Card:Colorful GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Storage:Kingston NV1 500GB NVMe SSD
Cooler:Cooler Master Hyper212 ARGB
Power Supply:Cooler Master MWE650 Bronze
Case:Cooler Master MasterBox MB511 ARGB

Here are our Benchmarks of the Intel Core i5-11400 ft. ASRock Z590 Steel Legend WiFi 6E

Intel i5-11400 Build 2

Even though the Intel Core i5-11400 is not overclockable, we can still enable the CPU Power Limit in our motherboard’s BIOS. We also increased and fixed the CPU Core Voltage to 1.2v making the processor run at 4.2GHz on some of our tests. Please take note that this is a loose adjustment, and you can still improve this by experimenting on the CPU Core Voltage.

Temperature

Let’s start first with the thermal performance of this processor. Using MSI Afterburner, we monitored its CPU and GPU temps while stress testing it on MSI Kombustor – VK MSI Furmark and Cinebench R23 for about 10 mins.

The Intel Core i5-11400 that has a TDP of 65 watts has a maximum temperature of 80°C and 41°C on idle. An expected result since we’re also using Cooler Master’s Hyper212 ARGB Cooler.

Synthetic Benchmarks

For Cinebench R23, we got 9835 for Multicore and 1118 on Single-core. You can see here that both our Single-core and Multi-core score is close to an i9-9880H. A decent performance coming from an i5 chip.

For the Blender Render test, using the BMW render scene, the Intel Core i5-11400 has beaten some of Intel’s i7 mobile processors within both the previous and current generations.

Gaming Benchmark

Lastly, for our gaming benchmark, we tested one of the most played esport title games, Valorant. Here are the settings we used.

On 1080p, medium settings, the Mix&Match build with the Colorful GeForce GTX 1050Ti reached an average FPS of 170. This score can utilize high refresh rate monitors if you’re into competitive gaming.
